Good to Know

Before you travel

  • Share your plans: please send us your flight details and arrival time at least 7 days before you arrive, so we can arrange your transfer (if requested) and your first meal.
  • Arrive in daylight: the final stretch of road is winding & unpaved steep, so we recommend reaching us between 2pm and 6pm. If your flight lands late, we suggest staying overnight in Liberia / San José and travelling the next morning.
  • Entry requirements: check the current passport and visa rules for your country. Costa Rica may ask for proof of onward travel, so keep your return flight details handy.
  • Travel insurance: we strongly recommend cover for cancellation, medical care, and emergencies.

On the journey

  • Driving: If you rent a car, a 4×4 is recommended but not necessary.
  • Transfers: private transfers must be booked at least 7 days ahead.
  • Money: bring some cash in colones / US dollars for small purchases. The nearest ATM is in Nandayure or Hojancha, about 10-15km away. We accept cash, credit/debit card, Paypal, wire transfers & SINPE payments .
  • Shopping: the nearest local village shop is 5 mins away in Rio Oro and the nearest pharmacy is in Nandayure or Hojancha, about 10-15km away. Bring any medications you need, plus sun protection if required and insect repellent if you wish.

At the retreat

  • Phone and Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is available however, we encourage a digital detox. Let family or colleagues know in advance. Phone signal is limited at times.
  • Power and charging: Costa Rica uses US-style two-pin plugs, 120V.
  • Water: Water is potable and comes from the local spring, or you may wish to bring bottled water.
  • Clothing: pack light layers, since nights can be cooler during rainy season. Days are typically warm and humid.
  • Footwear: bring sturdy shoes for the grounds, plus sandals.
  • Quiet: our retreat is a peaceful place. We ask guests to keep noise low and to use their phones quietly.
  • Privacy: your stay is private. We’ll only enter your tiny home at times you agree.
